Illuminating Lives: Rotary Club of Dadiangas Uplifts Sitio Nopol through Health and Livelihood Outreach

In the quiet and humble community of Sitio Nopol, nestled within Barangay Mabuhay in General Santos City, a transformative ripple of compassion recently swept through the lives of Indigenous People (IP) families — a ripple brought by the Rotary Club of Dadiangas through its heartfelt project, Pamilya Alagaan: Health and Livelihood Day.

Driven by Rotary’s core values of service and empowerment, the project was more than a community outreach — it was a vibrant tapestry of care, dignity, and sustainability. It was a day when hope felt tangible, kindness was sewn into fabric, and health came wrapped in generous hands and healing intentions.

Past President Rosalie Garcia’s donation of used clothes became the foundation of something beautifully practical. Instead of being simply given away, these garments were lovingly transformed into hand-made rugs.

The process was not only resourceful — it was empowering. Seamstresses from the Alternative Learning System (ALS) guided women in the community through a workshop, passing on a skill they could use to generate income.

What was once cast-off fabric became symbols of sustainability and resilience, woven by women whose hands now carried new possibilities. Meanwhile, care for the body and spirit arrived with a medical mission led by Past President Myra Atendido, who, alongside her husband, Past President Bobbie Atendido, offered free medical consultations.

They brought not just stethoscopes and medicines, but genuine concern and warmth to each patient. With donated vitamins and much-needed medicines, families in Sitio Nopol received a rare and invaluable opportunity for proper health care.

To further lighten the load — and the evening sky — solar lights were distributed, offering not just practical illumination but also a symbolic beacon of Rotary’s ongoing commitment.

Alongside solar lighting came grocery packs, ensuring not just the day’s nourishment but reaffirming a shared humanity. Through Pamilya Alagaan, the Rotary Club of Dadiangas didn’t just extend a helping hand — they embraced an entire community with heart, purpose, and hope. In every stitch, every consultation, and every beam of light, there was a promise: that service above self continues to be more than a motto — it is a movement that changes lives. As District 3860 shines on with The Magic of Rotary, this project stands as a shining example of what it truly means to serve with love, to act with purpose, and to believe in the power of community.
