“I Have Returned”: The Magic of Rotary Comes Alive at DISCON 2025

“I have returned.”

These iconic words, spoken by General Douglas MacArthur upon setting foot once more on Philippine soil, echo through the history-laden town of Palo, Leyte. More than a military declaration, it was a promise fulfilled—of hope rekindled and a new dawn arising. In that same spirit, Rotarians from all 101 clubs of Rotary International District 3860 made their own triumphant return—this time to celebrate fellowship, legacy, and accomplishments at the unforgettable District Conference 2025, held at the Leyte Convention Complex on May 30–31.

The event was nothing short of spectacular. With the charm of local culture and the energy of a family reunion, DISCON 2025 came alive with warmth, color, and purpose. District Conferences are much more than formalities—they are joyful declarations of all that has been achieved, and all that is yet to come. They renew our collective spirit, affirm our shared mission, and remind us why we serve.

At the heart of the celebration stood District Governor Caroline “CayCay” Lee Andrade, whose poise, elegance, and quiet strength defined this Rotary year. Her Governor’s Report was the highlight of the conference, showcasing milestones that stirred pride across the entire District.

Foremost among them was the remarkable achievement of $811,565.76 in total giving to The Rotary Foundation—a figure that speaks volumes of the generosity, faith, and commitment of District 3860’s clubs and members. But the numbers were only part of the story.

The soul of DISCON 2025 pulsed in the vibrant display of regional costumes as Rotarians embraced their assigned cultural themes with flair and unity. The stage dazzled with traditional dances and musical showcases that captured the richness of Visayan and Leyte heritage.

Rotarians didn’t just applaud the performances—they became the performers. With style and showmanship, they proved that Rotary service comes with sparkle, and yes—Rotarians can give movie stars a run for their money!

It was an evening of laughter, elegance, and joyful spontaneity. The audience delighted in the creativity and grace with which each delegation expressed their region’s pride and personality. The night felt enchanted, as though Palo itself wrapped its arms around the gathering and whispered, “Welcome home.”

The program honored not only the accomplishments of our hard-working Club Presidents, but also the enduring devotion of our ageless Rotarians—those who have stood the test of time with consistent service, humble leadership, and quiet impact. These recognitions were more than ceremonial—they were deeply moving affirmations of Rotary’s power to shape lives across generations.

As the lights dimmed and the final performance bowed, a quiet gratitude filled the room. The success of DISCON 2025 was no accident—it was the result of meticulous planning, heartfelt collaboration, and the spirit of excellence embraced by Rotarians throughout the District.

And at the center of it all—gracious, composed, and radiant—was District Governor Caycay Andrade, whose term will long be remembered not only for its accomplishments, but for the joy she brought into service.

To DG CARLOLINE “Caycay” ANDRADE You inspired without spectacle. You led not by command, but by example. You reminded us that the most magical kind of leadership is the one that makes everyone feel seen, valued, and empowered.
As we return to our respective clubs, homes, and communities, we carry with us more than photos and mementos—we carry the echo of Palo, the memory of shared purpose, and the pride of belonging to something truly meaningful.

From the historic shores of Leyte, The magic of Rotary lives on—in every act of kindness, every project fulfilled, and every Rotarian who says, with pride and joy: “I have returned.
