Cooking Up Appreciation: Rotary Honors Educators Through “ma-CHEF-rap”

In celebration of National Teachers’ Month, the Rotary Club of Valenzuela West, led by President Dianna Pascual, organized a meaningful community initiative that brought together educators, families, and stakeholders through the universal language of food.

Held on October 2, 2025, at Sitero Francisco Memorial National High School, the cooking competition entitled “ma-CHEF-rap” was part of the celebration themed “Cooking Up Appreciation: Celebrating Educators’ Month through Flavors.” The event aimed to honor the invaluable contributions of teachers in shaping individuals and strengthening communities.

The activity featured two engaging categories: the Parent-Child Cooking Competition and the Teachers’ Cooking Challenge. These segments fostered collaboration, creativity, and camaraderie, highlighting the diverse talents of participants beyond the classroom.

Teachers, students, parents, and Rotary members gathered in a vibrant atmosphere of unity and appreciation. The program opened with inspiring messages emphasizing the role of educators as pillars of nation-building, followed by the much-anticipated competition where participants showcased their culinary skills and teamwork.

After a lively and competitive session, winners were recognized for their excellence. In the Parent-Child Category, Cassandra Louise T. Castillo and Althea Mae T. Castillo emerged as champions, while Maricel B. Ngo secured the top spot in the Teachers’ Cooking Challenge.

More than a contest, “ma-CHEF-rap” embodied the spirit of Rotary—service above self, fellowship, and community engagement. By creating a platform that celebrates educators in a creative and inclusive way, the Rotary Club of Valenzuela West reaffirmed its commitment to uplifting everyday heroes.

Through this initiative, Rotary once again demonstrated that meaningful service can take many forms—sometimes, it is best expressed through shared meals, gratitude, and community connection.
