In Sitio Canumay, Barangay San Jose, Antipolo, a small community continues to grow with strength and unity. Home to 184 Dumagat Remontado families, led by Chieftain Salvador Novaira, and 250 migrant families, this is a place filled with hope, culture, and resilience. But when night falls, the community once faced challenges—dark roads, limited visibility, and safety concerns for those walking home.
Yet today, light brings hope. With the support of Chairman Edgar Odencio and the community, twenty-six (26) street solar lights with posts (lamp posts) now stand along a 700-meter road—bringing not just brightness, but comfort and security -- were turned over on March 20, 2026. Aside from these benefits, this project also protects the environment since the lights used are SOLAR LIGHTS. This is also sustainable since solar lighting does not need electricity, it sustains itself through sunlight which converts into energy. This is also considered a high-impact project as it benefits the community and for long term use.
These lights now guide the way, ensure safety, and make everyday life easier for families, children, and elderly people. Parents can now feel at ease knowing their loved ones are safer at night. Children can walk and play with more confidence, even after sunset. And the community can move forward with greater peace of mind.
Since the District, under the good governance of our Good Governor Gina T. Sanchez aims for continuity, the Rotary Club of Rivercity Marikina plans to continue posting more lamps in the area for the next 2 years and beyond, until this community prospers. This project will not be possible without the help of our generous donors.
A simple project, but one that creates a lasting impact. This is more than just light…it is hope, unity, and a brighter future for Sitio Canumay. Together, we make a difference.
Together, we UNITE FOR GOOD!
