Blood Letting Activity 2026: Rotary, Government Partners Generate 128 Bags of Blood in Tagum City

The Blood Letting Activity 2026, themed “One Drop of Humanity, Give Blood, Save Lives,” successfully generated 128 bags of blood during a joint Rotary and government service initiative held at the Barangay Mankilam Gymnasium in Tagum City.

The activity highlighted the power of partnership, volunteerism, and Rotary’s guiding principle of “Service Above Self,” bringing together local government, health professionals, civic organizations, volunteers, and generous blood donors in support of patients in need of blood transfusion.

The activity was organized through the strong partnership of the Tagum City Health Office (CHO), Davao Regional Medical Center (DRMC), and Barangay Mankilam, with the Rotary Club of Tagum North serving as the lead club.

It was supported by the Rotary Club of Tagum, Rotary Club of Tagum Golden LACES, Rotaract Club of Tagum North–Palm City, Institute of Integrated Electrical Engineers of Davao del Norte, Drugstore Association of the Philippines–Davao Chapter, and Order of DeMolay–Dalisay Chapter.

Barangay Leadership Drives Successful Blood Drive

A key factor in the success of the activity was the strong leadership and commitment of Barangay Captain Marlon Rio, who served as Overall Chair of the Blood Letting Activity.

As Overall Chair, Rio provided leadership and coordination in mobilizing barangay officials, functionaries, Barangay Health Workers (BHWs), volunteers, donors, and partner organizations. His active involvement underscored the important role of local government leadership in strengthening community-based health programs.

Under his leadership, Barangay Mankilam demonstrated its commitment to public health and humanitarian service by providing the venue, mobilizing barangay resources, and encouraging residents and community volunteers to participate in the blood donation drive.

Approximately 50 Barangay Health Workers from Barangay Mankilam worked alongside the medical team and assisted in the coordination and implementation of the activity. Their dedication helped ensure an organized, efficient, and welcoming environment for both donors and medical personnel.

The partnership between Barangay Mankilam and Rotary demonstrated how local government and civic organizations can work together effectively to address an important community health need.

128 Bags of Blood Collected

The collective efforts of the partner organizations resulted in the collection of an impressive 128 bags of blood.

The accomplishment represents 128 opportunities to help patients who may require blood transfusions due to illness, accidents, medical procedures, emergencies, and other life-threatening conditions.

The successful blood collection was made possible through the dedication of the medical teams from CHO and DRMC, the barangay workforce, Rotary volunteers, partner organizations, and, most importantly, the blood donors who generously gave part of themselves to help save the lives of others.

Donor Care and Appreciation

Organizers also prioritized the welfare and appreciation of the blood donors. Donors were provided with a decent and nourishing meal, along with vitamins, a dozen eggs, and rice as tokens of appreciation for their generosity and selfless contribution.

These gestures reflected the organizers’ recognition of the donors’ important role in making the blood drive successful.

Rotary Leaders Support Humanitarian Initiative

The activity was also graced by the presence and support of Rotary leaders and project champions, including:

Robyn Nino D. Pereyras, President, Rotary Club of Tagum North

Atty. Numeriano Galgo, President, Rotary Club of Tagum

Mayet Aparis, President, Rotary Club of Tagum Golden LACES

AG Agripino Coquilla, Area 2D Assistant Governor

PP Jess M. Osorio, Project Chair and Area 2D Community Service Project Coordinator, Rotary Club of Tagum North

Their participation reinforced the spirit of fellowship and collaboration among Rotary clubs, government agencies, professional organizations, civic groups, and community volunteers.

Partnership in Service

The Blood Letting Activity 2026 demonstrated that Rotary and government can create greater community impact when they work together toward a shared humanitarian goal.

The collaboration among Rotary clubs, Barangay Mankilam, CHO, DRMC, professional and civic organizations, youth groups, Barangay Health Workers, volunteers, and blood donors transformed the activity into a meaningful community service initiative.

More importantly, the event highlighted the importance of strong barangay leadership in turning a service project into a successful community movement. The leadership of Barangay Captain Marlon Rio as Overall Chair, together with the support of barangay officials and health workers, provided a strong foundation for the successful implementation of the activity.

The 128 bags of blood collected are more than a number. Each bag represents hope, compassion, and a potential lifeline for a patient in need.

Through this collective act of humanity, Rotary and its government and community partners once again demonstrated the true meaning of “Service Above Self.”

One drop can make a difference.

One donor can help save a life.

One community united in service can save many lives.

ONE DROP OF HUMANITY. GIVE BLOOD. SAVE LIVES.
