The Rotary Club of Marikina Royale recently conducted two simultaneous projects to empower students with disabilities at the San Roque National High School in Marikina. The event, held on November 22, 2025 was a testament to the club’s commitment to creating a positive change and fostering inclusivity.
The first project, dubbed “Green Wall of Hope”, saw the students learning to plant and cultivate vegetables in vertical hanging panels. Under the guidance of an experienced mentor, the students were taught the fundamental techniques of horticulture. They were tasked to create their own vertical garden panels where vibrant greens would soon take root. By nurturing their own vegetable gardens, the students learned the importance of self-reliance and environmental stewardship.
Concurrently, the club spearheaded the “Pathway of Empowerment, Progress and Sustenance” project, where the students with disabilities were taught to make and bake their own pizza. The workshop led by a culinary mentor provided the students with hands-on learning experience that extended beyond their traditional classroom setting.
This initiative not only equipped them with practical culinary skills, but also fostered a sense of independence and confidence.
Both projects were met with enthusiasm and gratitude from the students, their families, and the school administration. Furthermore, these projects developed valuable life skills and instilled a sense of hope and possibilities for their future.
As the students continue to nurture their vegetable garden and perfect their pizza making skills, the Rotary Club of Marikina Royale remains steadfast in its mission to create a more inclusive and more equitable society, one project at a time.
