Water for Life: Rotary Club of Makati Cristo Rey's Mission for Clean Water Access

On November 24, 2024, the Rotary Club of Makati Cristo Rey (RCMCR) launched a transformative humanitarian initiative called "WATER FOR LIFE." This project aimed to provide clean, safe drinking water to underserved communities, focusing on improving health and economic conditions. The project’s impact was felt deeply in the Cardinal Sin Village  in Punta Sta. Ana, Manila, where 98 water gallon units, each equipped with a Sawyer water filter, were donated to families in need.

The main objective of WATER FOR LIFE is to ensure access to clean water, particularly for vulnerable communities.

With a focus on preventing waterborne diseases, the initiative alleviated the financial burden many families face when purchasing bottled water. By providing water filters, RCMCR not only aimed to improve public health but also fostered long-term well-being in the community.

The beneficiaries of the project included the most at-risk individuals: pregnant women, families with children aged 1-5 years, senior citizens, and persons with disabilities. These groups often face heightened vulnerability to waterborne illnesses, making the provision of safe water even more critical.

RCM Cristo Rey worked in close coordination with the Rotary Club of Makati F. Zobel and partnered with several other Rotary Clubs, including the Rotary Clubs of Makati Rufino, Makati Pio del Pilar, Makati-McKinley, Makati Century City, Makati Metro, Makati Bonifacio, ASIA (Alliance of Services in ICT Advocacy), and Makati Ayala Triangle. The success of this project was made possible through the generous support of major donors, Project Propel and RipplAffect.

Each water filter, provided by Sawyer, had an approximate cost of P4,000, covering the water gallons and Sawyer filters. These essential filters ensure that water from various sources is purified and safe for consumption, further reinforcing the importance of clean water access.

The WATER FOR LIFE initiative achieved key objectives related to Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH), contributing to better health, hygiene, and the overall quality of life for the community members it served.
