On October 2, 2025, the Rotary Club of Pasay West (RCPW), in partnership with the Nippon Foundation, proudly carried out the Takechika Project—an initiative dedicated to uplifting the lives of students at Kalapi Elementary School, a community school serving Aeta children in Floridablanca, Pampanga.
This project was made possible through the generosity of Past President Takechika Arimatsu of Japan, a longtime partner of RCPW whose unwavering commitment to service continues to inspire. With his donation of 1 million Yen (around ₱350,000.00), the club was able to provide computers and laptops to Kalapi Elementary School, ensuring that students have access to tools necessary for learning in today’s digital age.
A Partnership Rooted in Service
The Takechika Project is not a one-time effort but part of a longstanding friendship between PP Takechika and RCPW. Over the years, he has consistently shown deep concern for the welfare of Filipino youth, particularly those from marginalized communities. His latest contribution underscores the importance of bridging opportunities across borders, proving that service knows no boundaries.
For the students of Kalapi Elementary, this gift is more than just equipment. It is a chance to connect with the wider world, to learn skills that will prepare them for the future, and to expand their dreams beyond the limits of their circumstances.
Impact on the Students
The delivery of the computers and laptops was met with great excitement. Many students had never used a laptop before. Seeing their joy as they explored the keyboards and screens affirmed the purpose of the project. For these children, who often face limited educational resources, technology represents new possibilities.
Teachers also shared their gratitude, noting how these tools will enrich classroom instruction and allow them to integrate modern methods into their lessons. The Takechika Project gives both students and teachers a chance to participate more fully in a world that is increasingly dependent on digital literacy.
Dedication of Rotarians
The turnover ceremony was joined by UCP Marian Diaz, PP Raymond Bucu, and several dedicated members and officers of RCPW. Together, they represented the club’s ongoing commitment to education and community development. Their presence demonstrated to the students and teachers that RCPW stands with them, not only as donors but as partners in their educational journey.
The activity was more than just a donation. It was a symbol of unity, showing how Rotary service can bring together individuals, clubs, and foundations from different parts of the world to achieve one common goal: to give children a brighter future.
A Model of Rotary Spirit
The Takechika Project reflects Rotary’s mission to make lasting change in communities. It is a clear example of how partnerships can create impact that extends far beyond the immediate moment. From Japan to the Philippines, from PP Takechika’s generosity to the collective dedication of RCPW, this project embodies the Rotary theme of “Unite for Good.”
As RCPW, we take pride in this achievement not for ourselves, but for the students whose lives will be transformed by these new opportunities. The computers and laptops are tools, but what they truly represent is hope—hope that education will empower these children to break cycles of poverty and build a future filled with possibility.
Looking Ahead
The Rotary Club of Pasay West remains committed to projects that directly impact communities and invest in the next generation. The success of the Takechika Project encourages us to pursue more initiatives that address the educational and developmental needs of children, particularly those in underserved areas.
On behalf of the club, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to PP Takechika and the Nippon Foundation for their trust and generosity. Their partnership with RCPW continues to demonstrate how service can transcend distance and cultural boundaries.
As we move forward, the story of the Takechika Project reminds us that when we unite resources, dedication, and compassion, we create change that lasts. For the children of Kalapi Elementary School, this is not just a donation. It is a gateway to learning, discovery, and hope.
Together, we will continue to Unite for Good.
