The Rotary Club of Tanauan: Through the Years

When considering the history of Rotary in the province of Batangas, Tanauan emerges as the most discussed locale due to its longstanding reputation for opposition to Rotary membership. In an effort to establish Rotary in Tanauan, the Rotary Club of Lipa City initiated efforts in the late 1960s. The territorial jurisdiction of the Rotary Club of Lipa City was established in 1955, encompassing the municipality of Tanauan, which is now classified as a city.

Hence, it undertook the responsibility of introducing Rotary to the locality. These initial endeavors were regrettably unsuccessful. In 1984, the Rotary Club of Lipa South, a subsidiary club of RC Lipa City, was able to establish a club in Tanauan after two additional attempts.

The Rotary Club of Tanauan obtained official registration with Rotary International on January 17, 1984. DG Benny Angtuaco, among others, delivered the Charter documents of the organization to the Tanauan community on March 24, 1984. Simultaneously, he administered the oath of office to the Charter officers and inducted the twenty-three charter members who had volunteered to organize the Rotary Club of Tanauan.
