TARA NA, ALAI!

In celebration of Rotary’s Peacebuilding and Conflict Resolution Month, the Rotary Club of Upper Eastside Antipolo (RCUESA) proudly launched on 02 February 2026 its second original book, "Tara Na, Alai", a meaningful literary project that transcends borders and champions unity in diversity.

Authored by RCUESA member, D3800 Vocational Achievement Awardee, and Margarito Duavit Integrated School (MADIS) Principal, Aileen Isidro-Carbonell, the book is inspired by the real-life story of one of her students, Alai. The narrative beautifully centers on Alai’s life, faith, and cultural identity as a Muslim, offering readers a heartfelt and authentic glimpse into a story shaped by resilience, understanding, and hope.

Set against the backdrop of Margarito Duavit Integrated School in Binangonan, Rizal where 35 out of 3,289 of the Integrated High School student population is Muslim, Tara Na, Alai reflects the distinct diversity of the community it represents. More than a teenager’s book, it serves as a powerful tool for promoting empathy, mutual respect, and peaceful coexistence among people of different faiths and cultures.

Written in our native Filipino language, the story is made especially readable for young learners across Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. Through a partnership with the Department of Educational (Division of Rizal, Binangonan District), there is hope of nationwide distribution, expanding access for children from all regions of the country.

Through Tara Na, Alai, RCUESA reaffirms its commitment to peacebuilding, education, and inclusive storytelling, harnessing the power of literature to inspire dialogue, deepen understanding, and nurture a culture of unity in diversity through peace education.

Following the formal book launch and story re-enactment, heartfelt messages were delivered by the author, Aileen I. Carbonell, RCUESA President Victoria B. Solis, and District 3800 Governor Gina T. Sanchez, whose message of affirmation underscored Rotary’s unwavering commitment to peace through service.

The program culminated in the ceremonial unveiling of the Rotary Peace Pole and the recitation of the Peace Pledge, powerfully echoing Margarito Duavit Integrated School’s commitment to embracing a shared Filipino identity within its diverse community of learners.
