RC Tagum North Leads Area 2D in World Polio Day Immunization Drive

In celebration of World Polio Day 2025, the Rotary Club of Area 2D, led by the Rotary Club of Tagum North, took an active stand in the global fight to end polio. The club spearheaded a Polio Immunization Drive held at the La Filipina Primary Health Care Facility, Barangay La Filipina, Tagum City, reaffirming Rotary’s enduring commitment to a world free from polio.

The event was conducted in partnership with the Tagum City Health Office, headed by Dr. Arnel R. Florendo, whose dedicated medical team provided invaluable support in the day’s immunization efforts. Together, Rotarians and health professionals worked hand in hand to ensure that every eligible child in the community received protection against the poliovirus.

This local initiative reflects the heart of Rotary’s PolioPlus Program, the organization’s flagship campaign under its global partnership with the World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF, and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Since launching PolioPlus in 1985, Rotary has been at the forefront of the fight against polio, helping to immunize billions of children and reducing global cases by over 99.9%.

“Rotary’s commitment to eradicating polio is unwavering,” said President Jason James S Ebdao. “Through activities like today’s immunization drive, we are ensuring that our communities remain polio-free, and that no child suffers from this preventable disease.”

The event also served as a powerful reminder that while polio remains endemic in a few regions worldwide, continued vigilance and community participation are vital to maintaining the gains already achieved. Rotarians from Area 2D demonstrated how local action contributes to a global mission each vaccine administered is another step toward complete eradication.

As the world moves closer to making polio history, Rotary’s role remains as crucial as ever. Through the PolioPlus Program, clubs like those in Tagum City continue to embody Rotary’s mission of “Service Above Self,” turning compassion into action and hope into health for future generations.
