RC Metro Kalibo Supports Free Bakuna for "Ligtas Tigdas 2026"

Driven by a shared commitment to protect mother and child from diseases, the Rotary Club of Metro Kalibo (D3850) led by Pres. Leo Franklin Magno, together with Numancia Integrated School Interact and TVL Clubs, has joined hands with the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) Aklan Chapter, Department of Health (DOH) and LGU Kalibo, to support the nationwide "Free Bakuna for Ligtas Tigdas" campaign.
On August 10, 2026, LGU Kalibo and partners officially launched Phase 3 of the Measles-Rubella Supplemental Immunization Activity (MR-SIA), at the Kalibo Pastrana Park Covered Court in Poblacion, Kalibo, Aklan.
The initiative, formally known as the Measles-Rubella Supplemental Immunization Activity and Vitamin A Supplementation (MR-SIA VAS), aims to safeguard infants and young children against measles and rubella, two highly contagious yet entirely vaccine-preventable diseases.
Achieving herd immunity requires reaching a critical benchmark, at least 95% immunization coverage among eligible children across the province of Aklan.
Measles poses severe risks to infants and young children, often leading to serious complications such as pneumonia, blindness, encephalitis, or even death. Through intensive community mobilization and strategic vaccination hubs, we are working tirelessly to ensure that no child is left behind, regardless of how remote or underserved their barangay may be.
This initiative is in response to Disease Prevention and Treatment, and Maternal and Child Health, two of the areas of focus of Rotary International.
Local health centers and designated vaccination sites across Kalibo will offer free supplemental measles and rubella vaccines throughout August 2026. Parents and guardians are encouraged to bring their eligible children (5mo to 5yo) to the nearest health center or community venue to ensure complete protection.
