On a radiant June morning, as the sun kissed the lush hills of Daanbantayan, Cebu, the Rotary Club of Cebu Gloria Maris gathered at the picturesque DiaCor Leisure Farm for a two-day, one-night fellowship that was much more than a retreat—it was a vibrant celebration of unity, friendship, and shared commitment to service.
The day began with eager anticipation at Golden Prince Hotel & Suites, where members, families, and friends came together to embark on this memorable journey. Among those present were President Myra Urbiztondo with her husband, Rotarian Alden Urbiztondo; their son Joshua Urbiztondo with wife, Rotarian Hazael Urbiztondo; and daughters Trisha and Tanya Urbiztondo. Also in attendance were President-Elect Roxene Rosario, Secretary-Elect Dorothy Borces, Past District Governor Lilu Aliño, and Past Presidents Atty. Liza Corro (who graciously hosted the event at DiaCor Leisure Farm), Marietta Socorro Briones, Bessie Villamor, and Jodelyn May Seno, as well as Director Evelyn Mercader and Rotarian Bernadette Ponce. The collective spirit of fellowship was alive and well as the group set off to embrace the weekend ahead.
Day 1: Where Laughter Meets Leadership
The first day was a masterclass in teamwork, creativity, and problem-solving, thoughtfully organized by Past Presidents Marietta Socorro Briones and Jodelyn May Seno. Members engaged enthusiastically in a series of activities designed to sharpen minds and build trust.
The riddles sparked laughter and quick thinking, while the Egg Drop challenge tested ingenuity and gentle hands. The “7 Areas Focus” activity reminded everyone of Rotary’s comprehensive mission to uplift communities in all facets of life. The Bonus Round added an exciting layer of friendly competition.
A highlight was the “Traffic Jam” problem-solving game, where members strategized and communicated effectively to switch places without collision — a perfect metaphor for Rotary’s mission to navigate challenges through cooperation and mutual respect. The day’s finale, the Square Puzzle, symbolized how every member’s unique contribution is vital to completing the whole picture.
As the day wound down, members relaxed with a refreshing splash in the pool and a magical night swim under the stars. The bonfire became the heart of the fellowship — a warm, glowing symbol of the light Rotary brings to communities. Stories, laughter, and shared dreams flickered in the firelight, weaving bonds that will last far beyond the weekend.
Day 2: Rhythm, Reflection, and Renewal
The morning burst to life with an energetic Zumba session that got everyone moving and energized. Karaoke followed, where voices soared and inhibitions melted away, celebrating the unique personalities that make the Rotary Club of Cebu Gloria Maris so special.
Lunch was a feast of food and memories. Members shared stories from past District Conventions (DISCONs), club victories, and challenges overcome. The laughter was contagious, the jokes light-hearted, and the camaraderie palpable. These shared experiences reminded everyone why they belong to this remarkable club — a family united by service, passion, and heart.
A Fellowship That Inspires and Unites
This fellowship at DiaCor Leisure Farm was more than a getaway; it was a living testament to Rotary’s core values. It reminded every Rotarian present that beyond projects and meetings, it is the human connections — the smiles, the shared struggles, the collective triumphs — that fuel their mission.
The presence of the President’s family—her husband, son with wife, and daughters—added a warm, personal touch to the gathering, highlighting how Rotary’s spirit extends beyond the club to embrace loved ones who support their service.
As the sun set on this memorable weekend, the club emerged stronger, more united, and more motivated than ever to serve with heart, mind, and spirit.
The laughter, the challenges, the music, and the stories all converged into a powerful reminder: together, they can move mountains — one puzzle piece, one song, one shared moment at a time.
This extraordinary fellowship at DiaCor Leisure Farm is more than a story of fun and friendship—it is a call to every Rotarian and community leader to embrace the power of unity, celebrate the joy of service, and continue making a meaningful difference together.
