On the morning of October 29, 2025, the atmosphere at the Cebu Provincial Capitol was filled with purposeful energy as Rotary District 3860 and the Rotary Club of Cebu Gloria Maris (RCCGM) united to launch the “Patak Polio” campaign, a vital push towards ending polio in the Philippines. The event took place at the 2nd Floor of the NCSC Building within the Cebu Provincial Capitol complex, gathering Rotarians, community leaders, and health advocates committed to safeguarding the youngest members of society.
Rotarian Alden Urbiztondo was also present alongside Past District Governor Lilu Aliño during the United Opening Program that brought together participating clubs in a show of solidarity. “Eradicating polio is more than a health goal; it is a promise of a safer, stronger future for every child,” declared Past District Governor Lilu Aliño. Her words resonated among the attendees, underscoring the gravity and urgency of the mission.
As the morning program concluded, the campaign shifted to direct action. From 1:30 to 3:30 pm, a total of 21 newborns and infants, all scheduled for their second and third doses of Oral Polio Vaccine (OPV2 and OPV3), received protection against this crippling disease. Precious moments unfolded as parents presented their babies for vaccination, symbolizing hope and health for the future.
Alongside vaccinations, parents were given kits containing essential baby care items, complemented by healthy snacks of pospas and juices, creating a welcoming and supportive environment. The presence of RCCGM’s leadership—President Roxene Rosario, Secretary Dorothy Borces, Director Bernadette Ponce, and Assistant Secretary Jabemarie Maquiling—highlighted the club’s dedication to community health initiatives.
Special recognition was given to Hon. Edgardo Borces, Barangay Chairman of Brgy. San Jose, Cebu City, whose unwavering support and coordination were pivotal in the campaign’s seamless execution.
“Every drop of vaccine brings us closer to a polio-free Philippines,” remarked President Roxene Rosario. “Campaigns like Patak Polio empower communities to protect their children’s health and futures.” “Our commitment extends beyond vaccination—we strive to educate, advocate, and build resilient communities,” emphasized Secretary Dorothy Borces.
The Patak Polio initiative reflects Rotary’s ongoing global commitment to eradicate polio forever, joining hands with local governments and health organizations to reach every corner of the nation. For the families served, it represents a crucial step toward a world where no child is vulnerable to this preventable disease.
