From April 3 to 5, 2025, the Rotary Club of Cebu Gloria Maris actively participated in the Presidents-Elect and Secretary-Elect Learning Seminar (PELS-SELS), District Team Learning Seminar (DTLS), and District Learning Assembly (DLA), held at Bai Hotel in Cebu City.
Organized by Rotary District 3860, the three-day leadership and development event brought together Rotarians from across the Philippines to strengthen leadership skills, promote collaboration, and reaffirm Rotary’s commitment to service. This annual event not only provided opportunities for knowledge sharing but also allowed leaders to strengthen their networks and engage with fellow Rotarians committed to the ideals of service above self.
Representing the Rotary Club of Cebu Gloria Maris were Assistant Governor-Elect Christine Tan Ashby, incoming District Rotaract Chair Mary Catherine Englis, President-Elect Roxene Rosario, Secretary-Elect Dorothy Borces, and Rotarians Torifel Gumapac and Mary Rose Rafols. Together, they participated in an enriching experience, contributing to the growth of their club while embracing the broader goals of Rotary District 3860.
Day 1: Leadership Foundations and Fellowship
The event kicked off with the PELS-SELS seminar at the Lapulapu Ballroom, where Presidents-Elect and Secretaries-Elect from various clubs across the district gathered to build new connections, lay the foundation for a successful Rotary year, and share their experiences. District Governor-Elect Angel G. Fernandez Jr. formally opened the event, delivering an inspiring keynote address that set the tone for the weekend, emphasizing the importance of leadership, service, and collaboration in Rotary. Esteemed speakers, including District Governor-Nominee Arlene Adlawan of RC Tagum Golden L.A.C.E.S., along with Past District Governors and Assistant Governors, led impactful discussions on leadership, Rotary’s core values, and effective strategies to strengthen clubs and enhance their outreach.
Throughout the day, attendees engaged in fruitful networking and exchanged ideas on leadership challenges and opportunities. The day culminated with a vibrant Fellowship Dinner hosted by RC Banilad Metro, which featured Boho Beats and Reggae-inspired entertainment. This relaxed evening provided a perfect opportunity for participants to connect beyond the formal sessions and solidify relationships that will continue to flourish throughout their Rotary journeys.
Day 2: Practical Learning and Induction of New Leaders
Day 2 focused on hands-on learning and leadership development, equipping participants with the necessary tools to be effective in their respective roles. Interactive training sessions were held, where attendees learned how to make the most of key Rotary platforms such as MyRotary.org and the District 3860 website. These digital tools are essential for Rotary clubs to increase their operational efficiency, engage their members, and expand their impact in the community.
The afternoon was marked by the opening plenary, a moment of unity as Presidents-Elect and district officers participated in an assembly, reaffirming their commitment to Rotary’s mission. This was followed by the District Team Learning Seminar (DTLS), where important topics were discussed, including district-wide initiatives, leadership development, and strategies for further strengthening Rotary’s programs.
The day’s activities culminated in the symbolic Charging and Induction Ceremony of the incoming District Governor, club Presidents-Elect, and newly appointed district officers—marking a renewed commitment to Rotary leadership and service.
This moment of transition served as a reminder of the responsibility that each Rotarian carries in leading their clubs and inspiring others to embrace Rotary’s ideals.
Day 3: Club Development and a Celebration of Talent
The final day of the event was centered on Rotary’s core areas, including the Rotary Foundation, Membership, Service Projects, and Public Image. Focused breakout sessions allowed officers and club representatives to engage in deep discussions and share innovative ideas aimed at enhancing their clubs' impact and strengthening their community service initiatives.
Later in the day, participants moved to The Tent at Mandani Bay for the culminating activities, including the much-anticipated Rotary District 3860 Got Talent show. Set against the vibrant backdrop of “Viva Carnival: A Rio Extravaganza,” the evening highlighted the creativity, unity, and cultural spirit of Rotarians from all over the district. This colorful and high-energy event celebrated the diversity within Rotary, showcasing the talents and creativity of Rotarians while reinforcing the bonds of fellowship.
The event concluded with a jubilant Fellowship Night, where Rotarians gathered to dance, laugh, and enjoy each other’s company. This unforgettable evening was a fitting end to a transformative and enriching experience, reflecting the core values of fellowship, collaboration, and service above self that define Rotary.
The Rotary Club of Cebu Gloria Maris, along with other district clubs, left the event with renewed energy, leadership insights, and a deeper sense of connection to the Rotary mission. This celebration of learning, leadership, and fellowship will undoubtedly strengthen their commitment to serving their communities and making a positive difference in the world.
