On the evening of July 4, 2025, the Mediterranean Hall of Waterfront Hotel & Casino in Cebu City was filled with excitement and camaraderie as members of Rotary District 3860 gathered for the much-anticipated Handover and Induction Ceremonies. Among the distinguished guests was the Rotary Club of Cebu Gloria Maris, proudly represented by President Roxene Rosario, Secretary Dorothy Borces, Past President Bessie Villamor, Assistant Governor Christine Tan Ashby, Past District Governor Lilu Aliño, and District Rotaract Chair Catherine Englis.
This landmark event marked the official turnover of leadership from Past District Governor Caroline “Caycay” Andrade, whose inspiring Rotary year was themed “The Magic of Rotary,” to the incoming District Governor Angel “Jong” Fernandez, Jr., who now embarks on his journey with the rallying call to “Unite For Good.” The evening was a vibrant celebration of Rotary’s enduring spirit, commitment to service, and the promise of new beginnings.
The program commenced with a warm registration led by Immediate Past President Cathy Alcoma, followed by an opening prayer by President-Elect Jennivieve Caminero. As guests settled in for dinner, the atmosphere was enlivened by a captivating opening production from the San Diego Dancers, setting the tone for an evening rich in tradition and festivity.
The formal proceedings began with the processional of district officers and dignitaries, accompanied by the solemn march of the Philippine Navy Color Guards. District Governor Caroline Andrade called the meeting to order, followed by the invocation, the entry of colors, and the stirring renditions of the Philippine National Anthem and the Rotary Hymn, uniting all in shared purpose.
Past Assistant Governor Herminia Go delivered heartfelt welcome remarks, warmly embracing the gathering, while District Executive Secretary Christine Chua and District Learning Facilitator Arcel Dela Cruz introduced the distinguished dignitaries and guests. Intermission numbers performed by the Rotary Clubs of Mandaue East and Cebu North added a lively touch, showcasing the talents and fellowship that define the Rotary community.
In a poignant moment, Past District Governor Caroline Andrade delivered her valedictory address, reflecting on a year filled with meaningful accomplishments and the “magic” that Rotary brings to countless lives. Her inspiring words paved the way for the awarding of district leadership honors by the incoming District Governor Angel “Jong” Fernandez, Jr.
The baton of leadership was then passed with dignity and optimism. Past President Joe Gerardo Rodriguez introduced the new District Governor, who was formally charged by Past District Governor Philip Tan. The oath of office was administered by Past District Governor Rodel Riezl Reyes, followed by Governor Fernandez’s inaugural address, where he laid out his vision to “Unite For Good,” calling on every Rotarian to deepen their commitment to service and community impact.
The symbolic handover of the gavel and district flag by IPDG Caroline Andrade signified the seamless transition of leadership, reinforcing the continuity of Rotary’s mission. Past District Governor Lilu Aliño introduced the keynote speaker and guest of honor, Past Rotary International Director Guiller Tumangan, whose keynote address inspired all to embrace Rotary’s global vision.
District Governor Fernandez and his spouse, Maria Regina Fernandez, expressed their gratitude, highlighting the collective effort required to achieve Rotary’s goals. The evening’s festivities culminated in a ceremonial toast with Philippine Rotary dignitaries, followed by the official adjournment by DG Fernandez.
To close the night on a high note, the San Diego Dancers returned with a spirited production titled “Gearing Up for Incredible Moments at Discon ’26!” setting the stage for future celebrations. The fellowship continued with a lively party featuring a live band, where Rotarians and guests shared laughter, stories, and renewed bonds.
Masters of Ceremony Past Assistant Governor Annabel Pulvera-Page and Rotarian Darwin John Moises skillfully guided the program, ensuring a seamless flow of events that left a lasting impression on all attendees.
The Rotary Club of Cebu Gloria Maris’s participation in this vibrant occasion not only celebrated the new leadership of District 3860 but also reaffirmed its unwavering dedication to Rotary’s ideals.
