Pagasa sa Pagbasa: When We Teach a Child to Read, We Open a World of Possibilities

The Rotary Club of Gapan brought hope, learning, and action to the community through “Pagasa sa Pagbasa,” a literacy initiative held at the Minor Basilica and National Shrine of La Virgen Divina Pastora, in partnership with the local community and dedicated church volunteers.

More than 100 young learners—from elementary to high school—benefit from this continuing initiative each year, particularly students who experience difficulty in reading.

For Rotary, literacy is more than learning words on a page. It is giving a child the confidence to learn, the opportunity to dream, and the ability to participate more fully in the world around them.

Through the commitment of Rotarians, volunteers, community partners, and the Church, we are turning concern into action—creating opportunities for young people to strengthen one of the most important foundations of education: the ability to read and understand.

This is Rotary in action.

We serve together.

We invest in literacy.

We nurture young minds.

We create lasting impact.

Because when a community comes together for a child, hope becomes something we can build—one reader, one volunteer, and one act of service at a time.
