On the early morning of February 22, 2025, the lively spirit of camaraderie and competition filled the air as the Rotary Club of University District Manila, District 3810 hosted its 35th Interact Sportsfest at Manuel G. Araullo High School in Ermita, Manila. With the compelling theme "Unity in Sports, Strength in Service," the event brought together Interact clubs from across the district, exemplifying the Rotary commitment to service and fellowship through sports.
As the sun rose, participants and supporters began to gather at the venue from 7:30 AM to 8:30 AM. The atmosphere buzzed with excitement and anticipation. At 8:30 AM sharp, the energetic entrance parade kicked off the festivities, showcasing the diverse talents and vibrant personalities of each participating club. The ceremony was ushered in by the lighting of the Olympic torch by MIP Orly Dela Cruz, symbolizing the spirit of unity and fair play that sports bring to our communities.
Following the torch lighting, Rtn. Vetrice Deluvio delivered the invocation, setting a reflective tone for the day. Interactors Kimberly Shane Abas and Bai Princess Angkua led the audience in singing the National Anthem, filling everyone with a shared sense of pride and purpose.
PE Elizabeth Capapas welcomed everyone warmly, laying the groundwork for a day filled with joyful competition and collaboration. Chairman of the Sportsfest, PP Jason Magos, took to the stage next to introduce dignitaries and special guests, painting a picture of the collective support and commitment from various Rotary Clubs, including the major co-hosts: Rotary Club of Luntiang Maynila Prime, Rotary Club of Manila, and many others. The community came together, reflecting the strength in our numbers.
The event resonated with wisdom from District Governor Joaquin "Jackie" Rodriguez and Honorable Senator Bong Go, who inspired the young athletes by sharing the importance of resilience and teamwork. Dir. Angelo Hidalgo’s Oath of Sportsmanship enveloped the participants in a promise to strive for excellence while maintaining respect and friendship throughout the competitions.
As the clock struck 9:30 AM, the thrill of competition began! Participants showcased their skills in various events, including Tug of War, 4x20 meters relay, Obstacle Course, Basketball Shooting, Sack Race, Patintero, Kadang Kadang, and the much-anticipated Cheering Competition.
Each event was a testament to the hard work and determination of our Interactors, reinforcing the day’s theme of unity.
Finally, as the day drew to a close at 3:30 PM, the awarding ceremonies celebrated the remarkable accomplishments of all participants. Claro M. Recto High School, sponsored by RC UDM, proudly claimed third place, while the runner-up position was secured by both Lakandula High School and Araullo High School, sponsored by RC Quiapo Plaza Miranda and RC UDM. However, the ultimate honor of Overall Champion went to Seven Seas Academy, sponsored by RC Cavite Premiere, who left the field with the champion trophy and P10,000!
As MIP Orly Dela Cruz adjourned the event, we were left with lasting memories of athleticism and friendship forged on the playing field. The 35th Interact Sportsfest served not just as a competition, but as a reminder of our collective strength and dedication to service. Together, we celebrated more than victories; we celebrated community, passion, and the unyielding spirit of youth.
