Building a Better Future: The 6000-Liter Overhead Water Tank for General Santos City High School–Lanton Annex

Resilience, enthusiasm, and cooperation by the Rotary Club of Metro Dadiangas and the General Santos City High School – Lanton High School Annex make this project a true embodiment of “Service Above Self and A Dream Come True!"

The beneficiary school, situated in Lanton, Barangay Apopong, General Santos City, has a population of 2,167 students but relies solely on a 450-liter capacity tank. This tank is not at the proper elevation and cannot adequately serve the second and third stories of the school building, as well as adjacent structures. Thus, the need for a larger capacity tank installed at a higher elevation is crucial.

This project has been on the table for the past two Rotary years since 2022. After our final review and inspection in August 2024, the Officers and Board of Directors wasted no time in preparing our District Grant application through Mr. Jose Fortunato “Chi” Uy, District Grant Subcommittee Chair.

Lo and behold, our application was approved by District 3860, headed by Gov. Carolyn L. Andrade, DRFC Chair Stephen P. Chian, DRFC Treasurer/PDG Philip N. Tan, Jose Fortunato “Chi” Uy, and PDG Rodel Ryzl, on January 24, 2025, for the amount of P522,000.00. We only need a modest contribution to meet the total project cost, which now stands at P680,000.00.

With the prompt action of Metro Dadiangas members, we immediately reviewed proposals from our suppliers, who will undertake the major work (we had already sourced proposals in December 2024). Construction officially commenced on February 1, 2025.

Based on our projected timeline and, by God’s will, we aim to complete and turn over the project by March 2025.

Now, the magic of Rotary shines at General Santos City High School – Lanton High School Annex.
