Beyond "Pwede Pa"

A community needs assessment at Tanza Elementary School in June of 2025 revealed a sobering reality. What was meant to be a modern ICT lab was instead a non-functional room for years, where monitors were stacked on the floor and essential equipment sat in plastic boxes. With broken tables and a crushing ratio of one computer for every fifty students, a digital future for these children seemed utterly out of reach.

The crisis extended to the school library—the foundational heart of knowledge. We found a makeshift nook under a stairwell filled with outdated books and broken shelves. This lack of

resources is where functional illiteracy takes root, depriving over 1,300 students of the tools they need to thrive.

From Chaos to Competence

The Rotary Club of Antipolo City refused to let "disheartening" be the final word. Through the commitment of our officers, members, and sponsors, we launched Phase 1: ICT Room Refurbishment of Tanza Elementary School, to bring order to the chaos.

We transformed that non-functional storage space into a working lab, increasing the number of usable computers from zero to ten. It was a vital first step—a promise kept.

However, ten computers for an entire school is only the beginning. We believe our students deserve more than equipment tagged as "Damaged but Pwede Pa" (still usable)

Phase 2: The ADEIRI Initiative

To move beyond "triage," we launched Phase 2 Antipolo Digital Empowerment through ICT Renewal Initiative (ADEIRI). This stage is about more than just hardware; it is about integrating technology with focused training to eradicate functional illiteracy.

Our goals were:

➢ To Refurbish the ICT and Library facilities into modern hubs for blended learning

➢ To Achieve 75% proficiency across learning areas, directly supporting the school’s "Project ACHIEVE PROFICIENCY"

➢ To Strengthen digital competency and reading habits in line with the MATATAG Curriculum.

A Community United

Success was made possible through creative fundraising, such as our "Dink Drive" Pickleball Tournament and the Serve x Serving Badminton Tournament.

These efforts, combined with a District Grant, unlocked powerful partnerships with the Pioneer Adhesives Foundation and the National Bookstore Foundation. Their contributions in mural art, books, and facilities ensure that the impact of this project will last for years to come.

This project is about more than infrastructure; it is an investment in the dignity of our students. At the Rotary Club of Antipolo City, we are united in the belief that no Filipino child should have their future limited by a broken table or an outdated book. They deserve a foundation built for success not on “Pwede Pa”.

The Handover: RCAC Handing Over a Future Ready Foundation for Tanza Elementary School, Barangay San Jose, Antipolo City

You can see the reality we walked into—the reason we couldn't just settle for "good enough." In our culture, it’s so easy to fall into the “Pwede Pa” mindset, the idea that "at least we did something." But our club believes excellence is a form of respect for the people you are helping. If we are building a library, it shouldn't just be a room with books. If we’re going to build a sanctuary for literacy or a space for nutrition, it shouldn't just be "okay na 'to". It should be a place that actually changes a kid's life. Making a difference means refusing to settle for mediocrity. The successful handover of the refurbished ICT room, Library and Feeding Room at Tanza Elementary School in Antipolo marks a pivotal transition from a physical infrastructure project to a self-sustaining educational legacy.
